Cultural HeritageTHE CULTURAL HERITAGE ASSESSMENT LOOKS AT THE EFFECTS THE DEVELOPMENT MAY HAVE ON ALL ASPECTS OF THE HISTORIC ENVIRONMENT IN THE SURROUNDING AREA SUCH AS POTENTIAL ARCHAEOLOGICAL REMAINS ON THE SITE, HISTORIC BUILDINGS IN THE IMMEDIATE AND WIDER AREA, CONSERVATION AREAS AND REGISTERED HISTORIC PARKS AND GARDENS.A full walkover and field survey of the site has been completed by an archaeologist. National and local records as well as cartographic sources have also been consulted and aerial photos have been examined. There are few features of archaeological features of archaeological significance close to the access track or turbines, the most interesting features being the remnants of mill lade just to the south of Wester Rarichie Farm Cottages and a possible hut circle or sheepfold near to the small pond between the two hill tops (a 20m no development buffer will be implemented round this feature). Outwith the immediate development area, however, the Fearn peninsula is rich in archaeology. The Environmental Statement takeS into account the impact of the wind farm on the setting of the Duns and Fort to the north near Easter Rarichie, the Shandwick Stone, Cadboll Castle and other significant scheduled monuments, listed buildings and historic gardens and designed landscapes such as Balnagown. |
